Instantly control your 3-phase motor

Background:

TI InstaSPIN™-FOC (field-oriented-control) technology enables designers — even those with limited motor control experience — to identify, tune and fully control any type of three-phase, variable speed, sensorless, synchronous or asynchronous motor control system in just minutes. InstaSPIN-MOTION provides robust control across dynamic speed, position, and load ranges of the system, typically with encoder based feedback.

Hardware:

An InstaSPIN enabled LaunchPad (LAUNCHXL-F28027F, LAUNCHXL-F28069M) and a low voltage 3-ph BoosterPack (BOOSTXL-DRV8301, BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM). For this tutorial, we’re using LAUNCHXL-F28027F and BOOSTXL-DRV8301.

Software:

MotorWare™ is a cohesive set of software and technical resources for developing InstaSPIN-FOC™ and InstaSPIN-MOTION™ based applications.

STEP 1) Download and install MotorWare

STEP 2) Install Free Code Composer Studio

STEP 3) Launch MotorWare.exe

  • Under resources, review the Kit Readme First for the LaunchPad and BoosterPack.

STEP 4) Work through the Labs

  • Under training, open InstaSPIN Project and Labs User Guide.
  • Follow the labs to use MotorWare projects in CCStudio.
  • Access the training here.

STEP 5) Instrument the code

  • To simplify the experience, when working through the labs to identify and run your motor, follow the GUI Quickstart Guide.
