Bluetooth® low energy and ANT™ - ultra-low power wireless connectivity
Consumer medical, mobile accessories, sports and wellness applications.
TI’s CC2540 Bluetooth low energy system-on-chip (SoC) and CC257x ANT network processor provide ultra-low power, short-range wireless connectivity solutions for consumer medical, mobile accessories, sports and wellness applications. Requiring only a fraction of the power consumption of traditional Bluetooth technology, Bluetooth low energy and ANT can enable target applications to operate on a coin cell for more than a year.
TI provides full system solutions for both sensor applications and for mobile handheld devices. With both sides of the Bluetooth low energy and the ANT link, TI delivers fully tested and robust ecosystem solutions.

About Bluetooth low energy technology
When the first mobile handsets with Bluetooth low energy capabilities hit the market in 2011, Bluetooth low energy is expected to quickly reach widespread adoption. Within a few years most mobile phones with existing Bluetooth implementation will also include Bluetooth low energy technology, thereby opening up a major standardized connection opportunity. Bluetooth low energy is chosen by the Continua Health Alliance as one of the preferred short-range wireless technologies for medical applications.

About ANT
ANT is a proven and established technology for collection, automatic transfer and tracking of sensor data within sports, wellness management and home health monitoring applications. Today, ANT provides immediate access to more than 8 million ANT+ sensors already on the market. ANT features a simple, low cost and low power solution for short-range wireless communications in point-to-point and more complex network topologies. TI’s ANT solutions have been developed in cooperation with Dynastream Innovations Inc, the company behind ANT.

TI’s Bluetooth low energy dual mode and ANT smart phone solutions
TI offers Bluetooth low energy dual-mode and ANT capabilities in TI’s WiLink™ combo chips. Bluetooth low energy dual-mode devices will typically be used in mobile handsets, ensuring compatibility with traditional Bluetooth as well as Bluetooth low-energy applications. If the power consumption is not prohibitive, the dual-mode chips can also enable manufacturers to launch Bluetooth low energy sensor applications with compatibility to classic Bluetooth, before the low energy technology has reached a widespread adoption rate.
The functionality of ANT enables mobile handheld device manufacturers to deliver ANT+ interoperable sports, fitness and consumer health monitoring products.
TI’s WiLink family is the first to deliver ANT+ communication on a connectivity combo solution. Leveraging TI’s connectivity leadership in the smart phone market, the ANT+ ecosystem is expanding its reach into the mobile handheld device market. Existing devices based on WiLink solutions can enable ANT with a simple software upgrade, to connect to the many available ANT+ sensors today.
WiLink is the industry’s first true single-chip mobile WLAN, GPS, Bluetooth, Bluetooth low energy, ANT and FM transmit/receive solution. WiLink brings connectivity features to mainstream products such as smart phones, mobile Internet devices (MIDs), portable media players (PMPs), gaming devices and personal navigation devices (PNDs).
