Wireless Power Transfer System

Wireless Power diagram

A wireless power system consists of a charging pad (transmitter or primary) and receiver (secondary-side equipment). Coils in both the charging pad and the receiver are magnetically coupled when the two devices make contact. Power transfers from transmitter to receiver via coupled indicators (e.g. an air core transformer). The amount of power transferred is controlled by sending feedback communication (error signals) to the primary device to increase or decrease power. The transmitter coil is powered off most of the time, only occasionally waking to see if a receiver is present. When a receiver authenticates itself, the transmitter remains powered on.

TI offers a growing family of wireless power transmitters and receivers that support the WPC Qi specification. The bq500410A is a new Qi-compliant transmitter manager that offers intelligent control of the power transfer between a base station and a mobile device. The bq5105x and bq5101x families of Qi-compliant integrated receivers provide a regulated DC output and digital-control feedback to the transmitter.
