ISO 26262 is a functional safety standard for electrical and electronic (E/E) systems in automotive road vehicles which was published in November 2011. This standard is applied to electrical and electronic safety-related systems installed in production passenger vehicles with a maximum gross vehicle mass up to 3,500 kg.
Examples of target automotive applications needing to meet this standard include:
- Steering
- Braking and Chassis Control
- Transmission
- Powertrain
- HEV/EV Battery Management
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
- Body
SafeTI-26262 design packages for functional safety applications include hardware, software, and tools which are developed with application of relevant requirements from ISO 26262:2011 to support safety goals with automotive safety integrity levels (ASILs) A to D. These design packages help manufacturers of E/E systems to more quickly and easily achieve applicable system certification.
TI is a member of US and International working groups for ISO 26262. In addition, TI leads the ISO 26262 semiconductor subgroup.

SafeTI™ Products & Targeted Customer Applications
For SafeTI-26262 products, component ASIL capability as determined by application of systematic requirements from standard is noted. Products from other SafeTI categories which are not compliant may be usable as QM components in ISO 26262 compliant applications. Determination of suitability for use in ISO 26262 applications is the responsibility of the system designer, who must take into account application specific functional safety requirements.
