The future starts with the first: Our newest 300mm wafer fab is in production

The journey to first production in Sherman, Texas marks an important milestone in TI’s legacy of firsts as we build the technology the world relies on today and dreams of tomorrow

Breakthroughs in technology often start with a challenge, driven by people who ask, “what’s possible?” even if their creation is the first of its kind.

For nearly a century, we have been driven by the belief that every bold idea can spark the next innovation. From the transition of the world from vacuum tubes to transistors and then to integrated circuits – which built the foundation for modern electronics – we have been pushing the boundaries of possibility as each generation of innovation builds upon the last.

With each subsequent technological leap, TI has been there:

  • In outer space, supporting the first moon landing
  • In vehicles, driving safety and convenience on the road
  • In personal electronics, enabling innovation in everyday applications
  • In robotics, making them smarter and safer
  • In data centers, improving performance and uptime

The semiconductors we design and manufacture enable it all, making technology smaller, more efficient, more reliable and more affordable.

Turning potential into reality with the first fab at our new Sherman site

Three and a half years after breaking ground, our customers are receiving chips from our newest 300mm mega-site in Sherman, Texas. The new fab, called SM1, will ramp according to customer demand, ultimately producing tens of millions of chips daily.

"Sherman represents what TI does best: owning every part of the technology development and manufacturing process to design and deliver the best, most innovative products for our customers,” said Haviv Ilan, president and CEO of Texas Instruments.

“The chips coming out of this facility will advance critical innovations across industries from vehicles to satellites to the next generation of data centers. TI technology is at the heart of these advancements – making the technology we use smarter, more efficient and more reliable.”

Inside the walls of our Sherman fab, we're manufacturing the foundational chips that are required in every type of electronic device. "We understand the need for innovation and manufacturing to go hand-in-hand," said Mohammad Yunus, our company's senior vice president of technology and manufacturing. "Our best-in-class manufacturing capabilities, coupled with our deep expertise in engineering foundational semiconductors, serves our customers well for the long term."

Our investment in Sherman is part of TI’s broader plans to invest more than $60 billion across seven semiconductor fabs in Texas and Utah, making this the largest investment in foundational semiconductor manufacturing in U.S. history.

Advancing global innovation from the heart of Texas

Our analog power products are among the first to come out of Sherman, unlocking progress across industries to:

  • Create more efficient battery management systems
  • Achieve new advancements in automotive lighting
  • Enable data centers to evolve to meet AI's growing power needs
  • Increase battery life in electronics such as laptops, smart watches and more

“We’re pushing the limits with our power portfolio – to drive new levels of power density, to extend battery life with lower standby power, and to reduce EMI signature, shortening the time to EMI compliance which helps make systems even safer no matter the voltage,” said Mark Gary, our company’s senior vice president of the analog power products business.

Power is the first category of products to be built in the Sherman site, but it’s just the beginning. The site will be capable of manufacturing products across TI’s broad portfolio in years to come, enabling the technological breakthroughs of the future.

“Our newest Sherman fab will have an immediate market impact, and it's exciting to think about how these first products will transform technology," said Mark.

Shaping the future of technology

Our breakthroughs in semiconductors continue to drive advancements across industries and fuel the world's most ambitious ideas, and with sites like Sherman, we’re ready to support what comes next.

From life-saving medical equipment to next-generation data centers, our technology powers what the world depends on. “We often say, ‘if it has a battery, cable or power source, then TI is likely in it,” said Yunus.

At TI, being the first is not the destination; it’s the starting point of what’s possible.
