Gesture detection for automotive in-cabin applications

The new 60GHz antenna-on-package radar sensor, AWR6843AOP, is ideal for in-cabin gesture detection due to the privacy it offers (sensor utilizes point cloud data instead of facial information that camera-based solutions currently use) and provides the following benefits:

• Flexible in-cabin placement due to radar’s ability to sense through various materials and its small form factor
• Multi-modal (ex. can perform child presence detection while car is off and gesture control while car is running)
• Robust sensing unaffected by lighting or temperature conditions 

Applications using this type of gesture control include changing radio stations, answering phone calls, opening windows, and more.
