SNVSCF0 October 2024 LM65680-Q1
ADVANCE INFORMATION
The adjustable output voltage version of the LM656x0-Q1 uses a feedback divider network to set the output voltage. The divider network comprises top and bottom feedback resistors designated as RFBT and RFBB, respectively. The resistances of the feedback divider are a compromise between excessive noise pickup and quiescent current consumption. Lower resistance values reduce noise sensitivity but also impact light-load efficiency. The recommended value for RFBT is 100kΩ with a maximum value of 1MΩ. Adding a feed forward capacitor in parallel with RFBT can be used to optimize the loop performance. Use Equation 36 to find RFBB for a given value of RFBT.
Note that Equation 37 states that the parallel combination of RFBB and RFBT must be greater than 4kΩ and less than 100kΩ. This limit is required because the regulator must reliably detect the state of the FB pin during the start-up sequence to set the output voltage configuration (fixed or adjustable output voltage setting) correctly.
Choosing RFBT and RFBB values of 78.7kΩ and 15kΩ, respectively, sets the output voltage to 5V and satisfy both Equation 36 and Equation 37.
If an output voltage is either 3.3V or 5V, a fixed output voltage option is available by either connecting the FB pin to GND or VCC, respectively. For more details on fixed output or adjustable output voltage option, see Output Voltage Selection.
