7.3.5.1 MODE/SYNC Pin Uses for Synchronization

The LM656x0-Q1 MODE/SYNC pin can be used to synchronize the internal oscillator to an external clock. The internal oscillator can be synchronized by coupling a positive edge into the pin. The coupled edge voltage at the pin must exceed the SYNC amplitude threshold of VIH(SYNC) to trip the internal synchronization pulse detector. The minimum SYNC ON pulse and OFF pulse durations must be longer than tSYNC(TON-MIN) and tSYNC(TOFF-MIN) respectively. The LM656x0-Q1 switching action can be synchronized to an external clock from 300kHz to 2.2MHz.

Note, an external SYNC signal can only be applied before or after pin detection. If applied during the pin detection, the SYNC signal can not be detected.
