Common-Mode Voltage Range

The TLV935x-Q1 is a 40-V, rail-to-rail output operational amplifier with an input common-mode range that extends 100 mV beyond V– and within 2 V of V+ for normal operation. The device accomplishes this performance through a complementary input stage, using a P-channel differential pair. Additionally, a complementary N-channel differential pair has been included in parallel with the P-channel pair to eliminate common undesirable op amp behaviors, such as phase reversal.

The TLV935x-Q1 can operate with common mode ranges beyond 100 mV of the top rail, but with reduced performance above (V+) – 2 V. The N-channel pair is active for input voltages close to the positive rail, typically (V+) – 1 V to 100 mV above the positive supply. The P-channel pair is active for inputs from 100 mV below the negative supply to approximately (V+) – 2 V. There is a small transition region, typically (V+) –2 V to (V+) – 1 V in which both input pairs are on. This transition region can vary modestly with process variation, and within the transition region and N-channel region, many specifications of the op amp, including PSRR, CMRR, offset voltage, offset drift, noise and THD performance may be degraded compared to operation within the P-channel region.
