Safety systems monitor inputs to maintain safe environments with products such as automotive vision and smoke detectors.  Safety systems require high-performance and reliable solutions to guarantee the consumer’s safety.

Texas Instruments delivers the high-performance DSPs, MCUs, video processors, power management devices, converters as well as many other devices needed for safety systems.

Automotive vision allows a vehicle to monitor situations that affect the safety of operating the vehicle, such as collision avoidance, lane recognition and tired driver alerts.  Older automotive vision systems employed IR sensors but newer systems use a DSP-based system to analyze video inputs and recognize safety issues.  The system can recognize if a driver is drifting into other lanes or across the fog line on the road.  Automotive vision systems also allow a car to analyze video of a driver to look for signs that they may be falling asleep, such as drooping eyes or constant yawning.  Under these situations, the vehicle would then make an audible as well as visual alert to the driver that something is wrong and attention needs to be paid to the situation.

Smoke detectors require very low power, low cost and high-performance devices to properly provide the warning needed in an emergency like a fire.  Smoke detectors have to also be highly reliable as a failure in a real fire is unacceptable.
