Small solution size
Our newest brushed DC motor drivers help reduce system size, complexity and BOM cost with innovative small packaging and integrated external components featuring integrated current sensing and smart gate drive. Traditional designs use bulky shunt resistors and other components to accurately measure current, which uses a significant amount of board space. Integrated current sensing eliminates the need for that, reducing the board size.
For gate drivers, smart gate drive eliminates many resistors and other passive components needed to control the gate drive current, and provides programmability to find the right design balance between speed and EMI performance for the system.
Increased power efficiency
Maximize system power efficiency and minimize power consumption with our low RDS(on) motor drivers that feature minimal power consumption during normal operation, low-power modes and ultra-low sleep current. Use our broad brushed DC portfolio to increase battery life and to fulfill any stringent sleep current system requirements.
Accurate current sensing
Brushed DC motors often require current regulation and monitoring to sense stall conditions, detect position and changes in load, and protect batteries and other components from the motor’s start-up current. By sensing and sending motor current back to the microcontroller, the functions can be achieved without the need for external position sensors.
Many of our motor drivers use integrated current sensing and IPROPI, a proportional current feedback signal, to both limit and sense current, removing the need for shunt resistors and amplifiers, further reducing board size and system cost.
Advanced diagnostics & protection
Without proper monitoring and control, damage, excessive current draw or overheating can occur in motor systems. Our standard and advanced protection features make sure that in the event that something goes wrong with the motor operation, the driver helps protect the system from harm.
Standard protection features include overtemperature, overcurrent, undervoltage and overvoltage protection. Advanced protection features include smart gate drive, offline fault detection, current regulation, automated dead time control and stall and open load detection.
