The BQ25181 is a linear battery charger IC focusing on small solution size and low quiescent current for maximum battery life while providing the best thermal performance through a QFN package with a thermal pad. The PowerPath function enables continous power to the regulated system voltage (SYS) while charging the battery and providing accurate termination. The device can support up to 1-A charging and system loads of up to 2.5 A.
The BQ25181 is I2C compatible and is highly configurable providing flexibility and charging control for various applications. The BQ25181 is available in a small 10-pin DLH package.
The battery is charged using a standard Li-ion charge profile with three phases: precharge, constant current and constant voltage. A JEITA compatible batery pack thermistor monitor input (TS) is included, monitoring the battery temperature and automatically optimizing the charging parameters to prevent the battery from charging outsite its safe temperature range. The thermal regulation provides the maximum charge current while mantaining the device temperature. Dedicated /INT, /PG_GPO and /CE pins provide full customizability and intelligent diagnostics for reliable system operation.
The charger is also optimized for battery to battery charging with 3-V minimum input voltage operation and can withstand 25-V absolute maximum line transients. The device integrates a single push-button input and reset circuitry, eliminating the need for an external button controller reducing the total solution footprint.
