Richfield Innovations Selects TI's Programmable DSP for its jazPiper CVR40U Internet Audio Player

TI's DSP-Based Solution Support the Iomega PocketZip for the First Time

jazPiper SINGAPORE (March 1, 2001) -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today announced that Richfield Innovations Pte Ltd. (RFI) has selected TI's industry leading programmable DSP, to power its jazPiper CVR40U PocketZip(tm) Digital Audio Player. (See http://www.ti.com/sc/internetaudio for more details.)

The jazPiper is the first player in which a TI DSP supports an Iomega PocketZip™ drive, enabling users to store, compile and catalog up to 12 songs on each removable 40MB memory disk. TI's programmable DSP enables the jazPiper to support multiple digital audio formats, both MP3 and Windows Media Audio (WMA), and extends the life of the player by allowing the jazPiper to be upgraded as future features become available.

Utilizing the jazPiper's improved DSP features, users now can choose from a wider range of sound effect settings, including choices for Rock and Classical music, and can customize two sound effect options based on their personal preference. The jazPiper's anti-skip feature delivers excellent sound quality with virtually no distortion or skips.

"TI's DSP technology is revolutionizing the Internet Audio market," said Jeffrey Chan, Senior Sales and Marketing Manager, RFI. "You have to go with the technology leader to maintain your edge in this market. TI's programmability and flexibility help us get to market faster and cheaper."

TI's TMS320C54x™ DSP family is the only solution that supports all widely used digital audio formats including MP3, WMA, Advanced Audio Coding (AAC), ATRAC3, ePAC and AudibleReady software speech codec ACELP®.net from VoiceAge. Furthermore, TI's programmable DSPs offer the versatility to enable support for future product features and additional audio compression formats by allowing Internet Audio player manufacturers to update features and functions with a simple software download, rather than upgrading internal hardware. The chip's small size enables Internet Audio player manufacturers to design devices with extremely compact form factors.

"TI's programmable DSP solutions enable Internet Audio player manufacturers to quickly respond to changes in this emerging and rapidly evolving market," said Kwee Song Lim, marketing director of TI Singapore. "TI DSPs are the overwhelming choice for Internet Audio devices, having been selected by more than 70 manufacturers including eight of the top ten consumer electronics manufacturers."

TI shipped its two-millionth Internet Audio DSP in November 2000. Building on its market leadership, TI's next-generation product line already has received commitments from leading consumer electronics manufacturers in the Internet Audio industry. TI DSPs also power a wide range of end equipments, such as portable Internet Audio players, car stereos, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), cell phones and digital home jukeboxes.

RFI expects the jazPiper to be available worldwide in March 2001 and officially launched the jazPiper CVR40U Digital Audio Player at the Comdex Fall 2000 show in Las Vegas.
