Texas Instruments Participating in OpenVoB's First "Any-to-Any" Interoperability Showcase at DSLcon Spring 2001

DENVER, CO (April 10, 2001) - Achieving another milestone in its commitment to deliver open standards-based voice over digital subscriber line (VoDSL) solutions, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) successfully completed OpenVoB(tm)'s CallFest II(tm) Interoperability Testing, qualifying to participate in the first public demonstration of "any-to-any" interoperability at the OpenVoB Interoperability Showcase(tm) being held at DSLcon Spring, April 10-12, 2001 in Denver, CO. (Booth #535) TI also will showcase its DSL infrastructure and customer premise system solutions in the TI booth #826.

TI's integrated VoDSL solution successfully passed a series of rigorous interoperability tests with multi-vendor broadband gateways and integrated access devices (IADs). These gateways and ADs formed a single standards-based VoDSL network configured according to OpenVoB's D1 Implementation Model and based on the ATM Forum's AAL2 Loop Emulation Service (LES) (also known as Broadband Loop Emulation Service, BLES). The interoperability testing was conducted at CallFest II held March 26-30, 2001 at the University of New Hampshire Interoperability Laboratory in Durham, N.H.

"TI's ability to demonstrate "any-to-any" interoperability with leading equipment manufacturers is indicative of its commitment to provide future-proof VoDSL solutions that offer not only toll-quality voice, but the flexibility and programmability needed to meet the demand for next-generation broadband services," said Brian Glinsman, executive director, product management, Telogy Networks, A Texas Instruments Company.

TI's demonstration at DSLcon showcases TI's 6E/4000R CPE evaluation platform, featuring TI's Telogy Software™ products with BLES support and world-leading programmable TMS320C54x™ digital signal processors (DSPs). Telogy Software products lead the market in field-proven VoIP software including both PCM/ADPCM and Low Bit Rate (LBR) voice codecs. With as much as an 8:1 reduction in bandwidth per voice channel, LBR codecs enable gateways and IADs to better utilize their local loop and WAN bandwidth resources. The combination of TI's LBR codecs and software features offer optimal performance and bandwidth utilization, allowing customers to deliver bundled voice and data services more efficiently.

In addition, TI's VoDSL solution implements open industry standards such as ATM Forum BLES, the first open standard to promote interoperability for VoDSL. BLES provides a standards-based mechanism to enable VoDSL equipment to support multiple derived voice channels over a single loop, eliminating the need for additional loops. TI's VoDSL solutions support both central office and customer premise equipment applications.

OpenVoB is an independent special interest group dedicated to the deployment of standards-based voice over broadband services by facilitating multi-vendor, system-level interoperability. Its goal is to foster a collaborative environment among vendors and serve as a catalyst for VoB interoperability and deployment.
