High-voltage direct current (HVDC) power transmission

Block diagram

Overview

High-voltage direct current (HVDC) or ultra-high voltage (UHV) power transmission systems help reduce power losses and cost when energy is transported over long distances. We provide analog, digital, interface and protection products and reference designs for HVDC transmission systems.

Design requirements

Modern HVDC power transmission systems often require:

  • Robust gate driving technology to control stacks of IGBTs
  • DSP for control/protection algorithm processing
  • ARM-based processors for standard communication protocols
  • High-precision signal chain components to measure voltage and current
