Overview

This reference design uses the TPS40170 sync-buck voltage-mode controller to step 24V nominal (35V max) input down to 12V/20A. An external control signal can allow the circuit to enter hysteretic-mode operation while at no-load, or near no-load, to reduce the input current to less than 1mA. The converter achieves near 98% efficiency at full load.
