Demystifying BLDC motor commutation: Trap, Sine, & FOC

00:45:52 | 17 DEC 2020

There are quite a few “buzzwords” when it comes to spinning a brushless-DC (BLDC) motor. The purpose of this session is to give a crash course on how a BLDC motor works, explain the differences between the major commutation types, and clarify when to use sensored or sensorless control. Should sensorless FOC be on your next product or should you stick with sensored trap? We will discuss the common trade-offs and when it is best to use each type of commutation.
