ISW Feed-Forward Compensation for Boost Converter

Although the LM48511 regulator is internally compensated, an external feed-forward capacitor, (C1) may be required for stability. The compensation capacitor places a zero in regulator loop response. The recommended frequency of the zero (fZ) is 22.2 kHz. The value of C1 is given by:

Equation 9. C1 = 1 / 2πR3fZ

In addition to C1, a compensation resistor, R4 is required to cancel the zero contributed by the ESR of the regulator output capacitor. Calculate the zero frequency of the output capacitor by:

Equation 10. fCO = 1 / 2πRCOCO

where

  • R CO is the ESR of the output capacitor

The value of RFB3 is given by:

Equation 11. R4 = 1 / 2πfCOC1
