Product Overview

Intra-Panel Solutions from an Industry Leader

The mini-LVDS chipset family is part of TI's Display Solutions Business Unit, the world leader in display technologies. This worldwide group is focused on meeting customer needs for the high-performance display solutions market. TI's Display Solutions Business Unit leads the industry with its diverse and high-performance line of Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) drivers and Low Voltage Differential Signal (LVDS) FlatLink™ products, and is committed to providing long-term Digital Visual Interface (DVI) PanelBus™ and it's new mini-LVDS solutions.

The TI mini-LVDS Advantage

TI's mini-LVDS (TCON) devices are, based on our advanced 0.18uM CMOS process technology, used to meet the user demand for innovative products with premium display quality. The mini-LVDS interface specification used to interface the timing controller to the source drivers for driving high-resolution LCD (liquid crystal display) panels in notebook PCs and LCD Monitors is now available royalty-free from Texas Instruments (TI) Incorporated (NYSE: TXN). From the beginning, TI designed mini-LVDS as an open platform that all chip manufacturers could leverage to deliver optimized mini-LVDS solutions. Many competitive technologies are proprietary in nature, increasing system cost and reducing the number of suppliers available to LCD OEMs. TI is working with major LCD manufacturers to make mini-LVDS an open and accepted standard - an initiative that will yield major benefits to LCD system developers.

The mini-LVDS specification reduces by 60 percent the number of signal traces required in LCD control modules, resulting in simpler board layouts, increased performance, lower costs and reduced electromagnetic interference (EMI) as well as reduced power consumption for flat panel displays. Availability of the open specification will serve to increase supply options for LCD manufacturers wanting to use this new and innovative mini-LVDS technology, helping to decrease risk and costs for system developers.

TI offers a complete and growing line of highly integrated mini-LVDS components, including timing controllers, which are combination LVDS receivers and mini-LVDS transmitters. In addition, TI provides a full line of mini-LVDS source drivers to be used in conjunction with the timing controllers. Combined, these products provide a highly integrated, cost-effective and space-saving way of developing advanced next-generation LCD systems.

TI's Performance -- The mini-LVDS family is designed with specific features that give customers powerful advantages. These include our advanced 0.18uM CMOS process, PowerPAD™ packaging and laser-trimmed input impedance. See "The mini-LVDS Advantage" and "The TI Advantage" for full details.

TI's Capacity -- mini-LVDS customers receive the same benefits that other TI customers enjoy. With a worldwide network of dedicated wafer fabs, assembly and test facilities, TI ensures customers higher capacity and absolute control over manufacturing quality.

TI's Support -- Worldwide product and applications support, utilizing our experience in display technology and high-speed design, TI uses leading edge process and packaging technologies to target High-Resolution Display solutions for:
