7.2.1 Design Requirements

Other core components of the display system include an illumination source, an optical engine for the illumination and projection optics, other electrical and mechanical components, and software. The type of illumination used and the desired brightness have a major effect on the overall system design and size.

The display system uses the DLP800XE DMD as the core imaging device, and contains a 0.8-inch array of micromirrors. The DLPC4420 display controller is the digital interface between the DMD and the rest of the system, taking digital input from the front-end receiver and driving the DMD over a high-speed LVDS interface. The DLPA100 PMIC serves as a voltage regulator for the controller, the color filter wheel, and the phosphor wheel motor control. The DLPA300 provides the DMD reset control.
