Sensitivity Linearity

The device produces a linear response when the output voltage is within the specified VL range. Outside this range, sensitivity is reduced and nonlinear. Figure 7-1 shows the linearity of the magnetic response for bipolar version.

GUID-20221121-SS0I-5QTB-Z6QK-RTZD84TF2VGG-low.svg Figure 7-1 Linearity of the Magnetic Response (Bipolar)

Equation 1 calculates parameter BL, the minimum linear sensing range at 25°C, and takes the maximum quiescent voltage and sensitivity tolerance into account.

Equation 1. B L ( M I N ) = V L ( M A X )     V Q ( M A X )   S ( M A X )

Nonlinearity is the deviation of the output voltage from a linear relationship to the input current. Nonlinearity voltage, as shown in Figure 7-1, is the maximum voltage deviation from the best-fit line based on measured parameters (see Equation 2).

Equation 2. V N L = V O U T ( B I N   ×   S F I T   +   V Q )

where

  • VOUT is the voltage output at maximum deviation from best fit
  • BIN is the magnetic flux density at maximum deviation from best fit
  • SFIT is the best fit sensitivity of the device

  • VQ is quiescent voltage at zero magnetic field = VCC/2

The parameter SLE, Sensitivity Linearity error is the nonlinearity voltage ,VNL specified as a percentage of the full-scale linear output range (VFS) shown in Equation 3.

Equation 3. S L E = ( V N L   V F S )   ×   100 %

The parameter SSE defines symmetry error as the difference in sensitivity between any positive B value, SB and the negative B value of the same magnitude, S–B while the output voltage is within the VL range. This error only applies to the bipolar device option. Use Equation 4 to calculate the symmetry error.

Equation 4. S S E = ( S B       S B   0.5   ×     ( S B   +   S B ) )   ×   100 %

where

  • SB refers to the sensitivity at a positive field B
  • S–B refers to the sensitivity at a negative field B
