I/O Expansion Using a Multiplexer

Multiplexers provide a versatile design for both analog and digital I/O expansion. For analog applications, multiplexers allow multiple sensors to share a single ADC input, ensuring high-density monitoring without increasing pin count. For digital applications, they enable multiple GPIO signals to be switched and monitored via a single MCU pin. By utilizing multiplexers for both ADC and GPIO expansion, designers can significantly reduce board footprint and component count, avoiding the need for more expensive, higher-pin-count MCUs.
