How do I submit a Tax exempt certificate?
In order to submit for a taxexemption, please create a new case with customer support under "Order Management" for order type "TI.com online order". Select "Yes" to "Is this related to tax/VAT?" and then a new window will open. In the new window, select “I am submitting a new tax exemption for my US state” from the dropdown menu. Please provide an email address that you would like TI to use in association with this case. TI and other employees at your company may send questions about your tax exemption to this email address.
Before submitting a tax certificate, please ensure the following information is included on your state issued certificate:
1. Please use the following to fill out the Seller’s / Vendor’s / Supplier’s / Dealer Making Sale (TI’s) Name and Address:

2. Purchaser’s / Buyer’s / Customer’s / Dealer’s Name and Address.
3. Reason for purchasing tax exempt (e.g. for resale, direct pay permit holder, manufacturer, etc).
4. State Sales Tax ID Registration Number / Seller’s Permit # / Sales Tax Account #
5. Signed and dated by the buyer/purchaser/customer/dealer.
6. Buyer’s Nature of Business.
7. General description of the products being purchased, i.e semiconductor chips
8. If your state tax exemption certificate has an expiration timeframe, please ensure the certificate expiration date is included
9. Please note the following states do not accept a MTC (Multistate tax certificate)
10. MTC’s are not accepted in the states of Florida, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, New York, South Dakota, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming. If you would like to review which states allow the use of a MTC, please visit: www.mtc.gov
Mississippi does not require forms, so a copy of the customer’s sales tax permit can be used as a resale certificate or letters can be accepted. Note: All other states do not accept a copy of the tax permit as a valid exemption certificate.
Washington and Florida have pre-made certificates for Resellers if the company is registered with the state. No need to add/change any documentation on the form. These certificates are the only ones we will accept for these 2 states.
Once I am approved, how do I use my tax exemption?
If you have a tax exemption on file for the state you shipping to, an option will occur to apply that tax exemption and remove tax from the order. Please ensure that your company name and state in your shipping address matches exactly what is on the tax exemption certificate (no abbreviations, letter for letter, all spacing and punctuation precise). If your information does not match exactly, you will get an error message to contact the email address you provided in association with your submission of the tax exempt certificate to confirm the exact company name and state the certificate is associated with. If you are still having issues, please create a new case with customer support and then select TI store tax exemption.
It is up to you to confirm your order is not being charged taxes before selecting the place order button at the end of the checkout process. Do not place the order if you are being charged taxes and you believe you should be tax exempt. TI will be unable to credit the tax back post purchase.

What type of online orders through TI are tax exempt?
All sales are considered taxable unless you have a valid US state tax exempt certificate on file with the TI store. Furthermore, the following states do not need a tax exempt certificate as they do not have sales tax: Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon.

Why did I get an error message with “A valid tax exemption has not been found for the company name and state used in the shipping address you have provided. Please update the company name provided and shipping state or continue with a taxable order. If you have any questions, please contact <email address> from your company”?
The company name and state must match the submitted tax exemption certificate. If your company name is not an exact match, we cannot approve the order. You will get an error message to contact the email address that was provided in association with the submission of the tax exempt certificate. If you are still having issues, please create a new case with customer support and then TI store tax exemption. Select ”I have a question on an existing US tax exemption” from the drop down menu.
How do I know if my company is tax exempt?
Please contact your tax department to verify if you are tax exempt and if you have a tax exemption certificate. If you already have filed a tax exemption certificate and are shipping to the exempt state, you will see an option in the checkout process that allows you to apply your tax exemption to your order.
How long does it take to know if our tax exempt certificate has been accepted and ready to use on the TI store?
Typically TI will respond to your request in 5 to 7 business days. The response may be requesting more information or to confirm your tax exemption certificate has been accepted or declined.
Are there states that I do not need a tax exempt certificate for?
The following states do not need a tax exempt certificate: Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon.
Can I work with TI to designate which online purchases should be charged sales tax and which should not?
You have the choice during the checkout process to select an entire cart to a tax exempt or taxable purchase. However, you cannot determine by individual item in your cart what will and will not be taxed.
Why am I being charged tax when I ship to a state where my tax exemption certificate is not issued from?

Every state has different requirements, exemption certificate forms and validity periods. The exemption will apply to the state where the goods are shipped to. The certificate must be on a form approved by the state.
What happens if I do not have a tax exemption certificate on file with the TI store?
All orders are taxable if you do not have a tax exempt certificate on file for the specific company and state you are shipping to.
