Overview

This reference design demonstrates a 10.5 mm x1 4.5 mm, 92% efficiency, low-electromagnetic interference (EMI) DC/DC module with the TPS54202, replacing a low dropout regulator (LDO) in major home appliance applications. The high efficiency eliminates the need of heat sink for a design that is smaller and cost-conscious. The higher current capability enables additional features to be added (WiFi, sensors and more). The high-efficiency and low-current consumption help achieving stringent energy ratings.

  • 3.3-V regulated, up to 1-A output load
  • 92% efficiency
  • 1.5-μA standby current and 84-μA no load current
  • Small form factor: size and pin-compatible and smaller than TO-220 (10.5 mm x 14.5 mm)
  • Less than 31oC increase at full load, which eliminates the need of heat sink
  • Reduce the on-board DC/DC design complexity, save research and design time and efforts for switching power supply EMC design (quicker to market)
