Bootstrap high-output voltage-extension reference design

This reference design uses three THS3491 high-speed, high-voltage current feedback amplifiers to deliver 50-Vpp output sinusoidal voltage swing at 1 MHz, while maintaining a large signal bandwidth (BW) of 100 MHz at 20-Vpp output. The high-output voltage swing is achieved by modulating the amplifier power supply voltages with respect to the output, using a technique known as bootstrapping. This technique effectively extends the usable power supply range of the amplifier, while maintaining the recommended operating conditions at all times.

  • High-output voltage swing: > 50 Vpp at 1 MHz
  • Maximum supply voltage: ±32 V
  • High-capacitive load drive of 100 pF to 1000 pF
  • Large signal BW: 100 MHz for 20 Vpp scalable small form factor for multiple subsystems
