How to Protect the USB Type-C Connector

00:20:27 | 17 APR 2017
The USB Type-C connector supports extra functionality, charging up to 100W and the offering the option of running alternate modes. With the addition of this new functionality comes some new, unique failure mechanisms. In particular, due to the fine pin-pitch of the small Type-C connector, the VBUS pins can be shorted to the CC and SBU pins in a variety of scenarios. TI has developed a portfolio of overvoltage protection solutions to protect the CC and SBU pins from these shorts-to-VBUS events.
