Dual, BDC Motor System with independently controlled motors

TIDA-00116

Design files

Overview

This Mutli-motor BDC motor system implements an MSP430, a DRV8816, and an Anaheim Automation motor. It's suitable for applications requiring 1A to 2A of motor current to 20KRPM. Motor voltage support is 8V to 32V, and max current is 2.5A. The PWM scheme allows speed control and current regulation. The H-bridge FET supports during current decay, the time interval of current decay, and current deglitch time. The motor drive stage has integrated protection from short-circuit, shoot-through, under-voltage, and over-temperature.

Features
  • Integrated power FETs support 8V to 38V and 2.5A
  • Easy adoption of Dual BDC motor in  3 easy bridge configurations
  • Motor speed is easily controlled by the PWM and DutyCycle
  • Fully hardware protected against VBB undervoltage, charge pump undervoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature events
  • Over-current limit detection using configurable sense amplifier

Evaluation board

DRV8816EVM — DRV8816 Evaluation Module

The dual half-bridge driver DRV8816 can drive one brushed DC motor or one winding of a stepper motor, as well as other devices like solenoids with individual half-bridge control. The DRV8816 is capable of peak output currents up to ±2.8 A and operating voltages up to 38V. The device has a current (...)
