External Pull-up Resistors

Pins L1 through L8 include a 1.2MΩ nominal pull-up resistor to bias the pin logic high when not being driven. If an external source such as a leakage path, conducted noise, or other current sink path occurs on these pins, the current can generate a large enough voltage drop across the pull-up resistor that the node is pulled to logic low. An external pull-up resistor can alleviate this issue by providing enough current to supply this sink while maintaining a logic high on the node. The value of this resistor depends on the current source, but generally, a resistor value in the range of 1kΩ to 10kΩ will provide sufficient margin. Designers are recommended to include an unpopulated resistor footprint on these pins in the case they are needed, and these resistors can remain unpopulated in the case that they are unneeded.
