Description

This reference design provides an overview into the implementation of a GaN-based single-phase string inverter with bidirectional power conversion system for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The design consists of two string inputs, each able to handle up to 10 photovoltaic (PV) panels in series and one energy storage system port that can handle battery stacks ranging from 80 V to 500 V. The rated power from string inputs to battery storage systems is up to 7.2 kW. The configurable DC-AC converter can support up to 3.6 kW into a single-phase grid connection at 230 V. Digital control of the three power stages is executed on a single C2000™ MCU.
