This TI Precision Verified Design provides the theory, component selection, simulation, PCB design, and measurement details for a PWM to 12-bit resolution analog signal conversion circuit.  Methods for selecting the passive filter’s order, cutoff frequency, and component values are included.  This design example includes a 12 bit filter but the methodology can be applied to target other desired resolutions.  This design also includes a test circuit, which is required to confirm that the output error (ripple) meets the design requirements because it cannot be directly measured using standard test equipment.

  • 3.3 Vpp 50% duty cycle PWM input
  • 12-bit resoluion, 0-3.3V analog output
  • 403 uVpp Maximum ripple
  • Error (ripple) verification circuit included
  • Supply Voltage: ±15 V dc (for post amplifier)
  • Post amplifier gain: 1024 V/V, ac coupled
