Real Benefits of Using a Power Module vs. Discrete
Power Modules are becoming increasingly popular in the market, and TI has major investments in terms of Products and Technology across many Product Lines in Power. We need to ensure we make it easy for customers to choose modules instead of a discrete design. This presentation will give specific details of how Power Modules are designed – helping you become ‘Experts in the Value of Power Modules’. By understanding specifics of component selection and qualification, and the care-abouts of Module Design, you will be able to better position Power Modules as a preferred alternative to discrete designs. We frequently talk about “Small Size” and “Ease of Use” and while true, these are very generic statements with not enough meat to effectively argue the merits of using a Power Module.
This presentation will give tangible examples of why a customer should use a Module instead of a Discrete solution, and why an you should design-in a module instead of an IC.
We will cover topics and provide specific examples around areas including:* Challenges of Component Selection* Summary of the characterization/qualification steps we take as part of module development – discrete and final module* Break-even point of discrete vs module* Relative resource benefits of different module types* Opportunity cost of developing a discrete vs a module solution* Challenges of Webench in doing module designs* What the Module Design inherently covers that a discrete design doesn’t
