Applications that require wide input voltage and wide output voltage range, such as Remote Radio Unit and other power supplies, generally use full-bridge and buck-boost converter topologies. There are unique consideration while using gate drivers in these applications such as voltage rating, number of channels, switching characteristics, robustness, package size, and ground differences. This training very briefly discusses how non-isolated gate drivers, such as half-bridge driver and low-side driver, and isolated gate drivers are used in these applications. This training also discusses use of discrete level shifter in conjunction with half-bridge driver along with advantages and dis-advantages of using such circuits.
