Techniques for PIR-based motion detection

00:45:35 | 18 MAR 2021

Pyroelectric infrared (PIR) sensors have been used for motion detection circuits for some time. However, the traditional analog signal chain that is commonly used presents some challenges with respect to false triggering, sensitivity at longer distances, and detection of lower-frequency events (slow-moving or farther targets). This presentation introduces the concept of PIR-based sensing, typical solutions used today, and how alternative signal conditioning techniques can improve both detection performance and power consumption.
