In this video, we review two common applications requiring high-speed comparators. The signal repeater application relies on the fast response time and rapid toggle frequency of the comparator to recover an existing signal and transmit it throughout the system. TI’s 2.5-ns TLV3601 or TLV3603 push-pull comparators can provide the necessary speed, along with added hysteresis to tune out noise. Another application in the trigger function of an oscilloscope or logic analyzer uses the high-speed comparator to detect a narrow pulse and alert the system, relying on low overdrive dispersion to provide improved accuracy for timing measurements. These systems benefit from using LVDS comparators like TI’s 800-ps TLV3604 and TLV3605, or the 225-ps TLV3801 for even better accuracy.
