Watch this demo to see a  single-phase single-stage matrix converter used for ac-dc power conversion applied to onboard charger. The converter eliminates bulky boost inductor and large electrolytic dc-link cap required in the traditional PFC, directly converting ac voltage into dc voltage to charge 400V batteries. Bi-directional GaNs and uni-directional GaNs further increase power density and power efficiency.
