Smart Analog Combo - a configurable analog peripheral

The Smart Analog Combo is a configurable analog peripheral that includes a high-performance, low-power programmable gain amplifier (PGA) with gain up to 33 and a 12-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC).

Transimpedance Amplifier (TIA)

The transimpedance amplifier (TIA) is a high-performance low-power rail-to-rail output operational amplifier (Op Amp) configured to convert current to voltage, with low-leakage negative input down to 5pA.

16- and 24-bit sigma-delta converters

The SD24 module consists of up to eight independent sigma-delta analog-to-digital converters. The converters are based on second-order oversampling sigma-delta modulators and digital decimation filters.

The decimation filters are comb type filters with selectable oversampling ratios of up to 1024. Additional filtering can be done in software.

  • Simultaneous conversions - no inherent delay between voltage and current samples means SW compensation not required

Signal processing microcontrollers

The integrated low-energy accelerator (LEA) module is a 32-bit hardware engine designed for operations that involve vector-based signal processing such as FIR, IIR and FFT. These operations are done without CPU intervention and trigger an interrupt when the operation is completed. The LEA module supports multiple commands, which are issued by the CPU and performs vector math operations up to 40x faster than Arm Cortex-M0+ MCUs running the CMSIS DSP library and minimal energy consumption.

What is FRAM?

FRAM, or ferroelectric random access memory, is a memory technology that combines the non-volatility of Flash and the flexibility and low power of SRAM. This proven memory technology is integrated in MSP430 ultra-low-power microcontrollers (MCUs) to bring its unique advantages to real-world applications.

Scan interface for rotary flow meters

For water, gas and heat meters that use conventional mechanical technologies, flow is determined by a spinning wheel that rotates at a speed proportional to the flow rate. Extended scan interface (ESI) is an analog-front-end (AFE) integrated in the MSP430FR6989 MCU family to automatically measure linear or rotational motion of sensors with the lowest possible power consumption.

USB integration

The USB module is a comprehensive full-speed USB device peripheral which is compliant with the USB 2.0 specification.  Featuring an integrated LDO, PHY, and flexible PLL to reduce system complexity. Development is made easy with the USB Developer’s Package and tools such as the MSP430F5529 LaunchPad. TI also offers a USB Vendor ID sharing program to help jumpstart development.
