The core of what is needed is covered within this system spec, however reference should be made to these standards and any discrepancies pointed out and discussed. This document should provide all the basics of what is needed. However, for a full understanding of CAN including the protocol these additional sources is very helpful as the scope of CAN protocol in detail is outside the scope of this physical layer (transceiver) specification.
