Within the System Controls group box, the GUI updates the state of the EVM to indicate the status as Normal Mode or Standby Mode. The user can command the EVM into Standby Mode if the EVM is not being used or the Normal Mode can be selected to command the EVM to wake up. The user can click the Reset button to command the EVM to perform a software reset.
Note: When in Standby Mode, the GUI suspends status updates until a return to operation or software reset is issued. If a hardware reset is asserted, the GUI must be restarted to recognize the return to operation.
Standby mode requires a waiting period of two minutes to run 50/50 (alternating pixels on/off at 50% duty cycle) and park the DMD. Three additional seconds are needed to complete all operations before issuing a Return to Normal Mode command.
Once Standby has been issued, the only command accepted by the DLPC900 controller board is Return to Normal Mode (0). Any other command can result in unexpected behavior. In particular, a Park/Unpark is not accepted until Normal Mode is resumed. Using the isolated Park/Unpark command is not recommended except for debugging purposes.
The EVM can be commanded to enter one of the four operating modes. Within the Operating Mode group box there are four choices:
- Video Mode—This mode is primarily used for display applications, and is not recommended for applications that require pixel and timing accuracy. In this mode, the user can choose from the four following video modes:
- Parallel RGB interface
- Internal test pattern generator with ten test pattern options
- Pattern image display from flash memory
- Solid Curtain with choice of color
- Pre-stored Pattern Mode—In this mode, the user can create a pattern sequence using images stored in Flash.
- Video Pattern Mode—In this mode, the user can define a pattern sequence using pattern data or video, which is streamed using a parallel RGB interface.
- Pattern On-The-Fly Mode—In this mode, the user can create a pattern sequence using bitmap images, which are loaded into the internal memory of the DLPC900 through the USB or I2C interfaces. This mode can be helpful to view a pattern sequence before storing the images in flash memory, as updating the flash to use Pattern Mode can be a timely process.
