The voltage applied to the REFIN pin determines the output voltage range of the OUT pin, as described in the Analog Output section.
The output buffer is linear in the range of 150mV < VOUT < (VDD2 – 250mV). With REFIN shorted to VDD2, the output becomes nonlinear for input voltages close to VClipping, MAX. Eventually the output voltage clips, because the output buffer requires a minimum headroom of 250mV to VDD2. The maximum linear, input-referred voltage that the output buffer supports is a function of VREFIN and is calculated as follows:
For a worst-case calculation, set VOUT, MAX = VDD2MIN – 250mV = 2.75V and VREFIN ≤ 3.0V (VREFIN cannot exceed VDD2). Under these worst-case assumptions, the output buffer supports an input voltage range up to 2.35V. This range is larger than the specified linear input voltage range of the device. Therefore, the reference voltage is not a limiting item.
