SNAS895 September 2025 LMR60450-Q1
ADVANCE INFORMATION
The LMR60450-Q1 uses two current limits to limit the total load current delivered to the output. These limits are known as the high side peak current limit (IHS-LIM) and the low side valley current limit (ILS-LIM). After IHS-LIM is reached, the high side MOSFET is turned off and the low side MOSFET is turned ON until the inductor current falls below ILS-LIM. This action can result in a reduction in switching frequency and can be referred to as soft current limit. Because the inductor is limited to switch between IHS-LIM and ILS-LIM, the maximum output current is very close to the average between these two values. If the load demands a current that is greater than the maximum output current, the output voltage decreases. If the output voltage decreases such that the voltage on the FB pin drops below VHIC, the device enter into hiccup mode. See also Section 7.3.7.
The LMR60450-Q1 also implements a negative current limit (ILS-NEG-LIM) to limit the amount of current the low-side MOSFET can sink. After the negative current limit is reached, the low-side MOSFET turns off.
