10V-13V Input Constant Output Current Capacitor-Charger Boost Converter (28V@0.13A) Reference Design

This 28V boost converter charges a capacitor "bank" at a constant 0.13A to reduce the power drawn from the 10V - 13V input. Two control loop are implemented; one to regulate output current and a second to regulate output voltage. This design can support high pulse load currents at a repetitive rate, with power limited recharging between load pulses.

  • Current loop limits input power regardless of capacitor bank size
  • Very good efficiency (90% with 0.13A load at 12Vin)
