Design Review of a 2-kW Parallelable Power-Supply Module

00:39:15 | 13 JUN 2017

After a quick sight into the topology selection of main power stages, this training dives into details regarding the single blocks of the module, like EMI filter and PFC stage, AC voltage sensing and the second stage as well. Regarding the digital parallel, hardware CAN bus is used to allow all paralleled modules to communicate in Master-Slave architecture. At the end of the training, a real 2kW prototype, with housing, has been built and tested and the whole concept proved.

Why should I take this training?

  • Designing a >1kW output power supply requires giving careful consideration to all parts of the design from selecting the correct topology to designing the EMI filter
  • Paralleling of  high power supplies requires a form of digital control

What will I learn?

  • How to correctly choose the right power topology that can handle the 1kW+ power both thermally and electrically
  • Understand module designs such as EMI filter, AC line sensing, and paralleling these designs using a microcontroller
