Mioty technology is a new low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) solution, and is a true standardized technology based on ETSI 103 357. Mioty achieves long range with Sub-1 GHz communication, and offers robust networks due to its innovative telegram splitting. It is also capable of scaling to thousands of devices on a single base station. Target applications are ultra-low power sensor devices, such as metering and environmental/industrial monitoring. These sensor devices can have a battery lifetime beyond 10 years in a Mioty network.

How does the mioty technology compare to other LPWAN technologies?
Mioty is unique in the way it transmits data. Instead of sending it as one packet, mioty divides the telegram (data packet) into multiple sub-telegrams that are distributed in the time and frequency domains. This makes mioty more scalable and robust compared to other LPWAN technologies.
What kind of range can I expect from mioty?
5km in urban and 15km in rural environments.
What frequency bands are supported with mioty?
As described in the specification, the 868MHz and 915MHz frequencies are supported by the TS-UNB family.
What’s the timeline for support of bi-directional communication?
The mioty stack from Stackforce already has support for bi-directional communication as well as the gateways from the different gateway providers.
Where do I find information about the PHY and security features of mioty?
mioty is based on the telegram splitting ultra-narrow band (TS-UNB) family in the ETSI TS103358 standard. If you are interested in the technological details about the protocol, please refer to chapter 6 of the specification.
How does the licensing fee for mioty work?
There is an IP license cost related to using mioty, this is a one-time cost per device, which is handled by Sisvel. Refer to their website for more details.
What are the key differences between the high-performance gateway and the low-cost gateway? Are there any differences in scalability?
The main difference is in the dynamic range and in the linearity. This will affect the receives ability to handle weak signals in the presence of other stronger wanted and/or unwanted signal. This could potentially influence the scalability, but from a signal processing side, there should be no difference with regards to scalability. The low-cost gateway is mainly intended for evaluation use, for indoor deployment or for rural areas whereas the high-performance gateway should be used for outdoor urban solutions.
