EMC-compliant 10/100-Mbps Ethernet PHY reference design with IEEE802.3at Type-1 (≤ 12.95 W) PoE-PD

This reference design is optimized for 10 to 100 Mbps using the low-power Ethernet physical layer (PHY) DP83825 supporting 150-m reach over CAT5e cable which is beyond the standard Ethernet distance limitation of 100 m (328 feet). This design has power delivery over Ethernet cable along with data communication using IEEE802.3at Type-1 (13 W) PoE-PD TPS23755 device with integrated primary-side regulated flyback DC/DC controller. This reference design is pre-compliant tested for radiated emissions, ESDs and EFTs.

  • Based on cost efficiency, low-power consumption and small form-factor 10 to 100-Mbps Ethernet PHY DP83825 with RMII support and 150-m cable reach
  • Efficient power delivery via PoE using IEEE802.3at Type-1 PoE-PSE and PoE-PD
  • Pre-compliant tested for radiated emission requirements
    • CISPR22/EN55022 meets Class A and B limits
    • FCC Part 15 meets Class A and B limits
  • Pre-compliant tested for conducted immunity requirements
    • ±12-kV contact discharge and ±15-kV air discharge ESD IEC 61000-4-2 meets criterion B
    • ±2-kV IO capacitive coupling EFT per IEC 61000-4-4 meets criterion B
  • External isolation transformer with common-mode choke on PHY side for improved EMI and EMC performance
  • Programmable LED support for link and activity
