Process This: Building cloud-connected industrial machines

00:51:54 | 08 NOV 2022

In this webinar, the presenters build on the concepts introduced in “Hello (Industrial) World” that laid the foundation for machine-to-machine communication, extending the system capabilities to include machine-to-cloud communication. The hardware platform for this training is the PHYTEC phyCORE-AM64x SOM, featuring the Texas Instruments (TI) AM6442 processor. Both the PHYTEC phyBOARD-AM64x development kit and the SK-AM64 starter kit for the AM64x processor, are AWS IoT Greengrass qualified devices. The AM2434 is a Quad-core Arm® Cortex®-R5F-based MCU running FreeRTOS.

The PHYTEC Plotter is an industrial machine built around the phyBOARD-AM64x development kit and phyGATE-AM243x application kit, both based on the phyCORE-AM64x SOM, to communicate over EtherCAT for controlling three motors and transmitting sensor data back from the microcontroller to the processor. The webinar concludes with a demonstration showing how the data communication from board to board and how the industrial machine can be monitored and visualized in the cloud.

Webinar topics include:

  • Scalability across TI Arm®-based processors with PHYTEC and AWS
  • Overview of AWS products including AWS IoT Greengrass, AWS IoT Sitewise, AWS IoT TwinMaker, Amazon Managed Grafana
  • Explanation of phyBOARD-AM64x, phyGATE-AM243x setup and live demo using temp sensor data
