Automotive door closure reference design and IC solutions from Texas Instruments

"The door control unit controls the many possible motors in a car door. These motors control locking and unlocking of the door, rolling up and down of the window, swiveling of side mirrors, and door cinching and door soft close features. The door control unit could also turns on and off puddle lights that provide illumination in the dark and dim the side mirrors in order to preven glare.

In addition, depending on the BCM architecture, the door control unit could also monitor all the control switches that allow the driver to control these various motors. Some door control units also have switches for controlling power seats."
