Figure 10-11 shows the block diagram of a IEC 60730 functional safety system with
MCF8316DULVRGFR.
An external MCU is needed to communicate with MCF8316DULVRGFR over I2C
interface to initiate self test sequence, read fault status, report faults to main
system controller etc., The reference input command (like speed reference) can be
either set using SPEED pin or I2C interface depending on end use
requirement. The following points should be considered by end user while designing
IEC 60730 functional safety system with MCF8316DULVRGFR,
- Suitability of the protective and Class B functions shall be determined in
the end use application.
- Built in Self Test (BIST) is
the responsibility of the end use application. End use application should
initiate BIST sequence over I2C communication with
MCF8316DULVRGFR; suitability shall be determined in the end use. Refer to
Section 10.3.2
for BIST (also known as Self Test Library, STL) initiation procedure.
- Pin level faults were assessed as part of UL recognition. Suitability of the
reaction of these faults in the end use application shall be repeated by end
user.
- End of manufacturing line routine tests for the protective/Class B function
shall be implemented at the end application location.
