To identify and prevent assembly-related EOS:
1. Equipment Inspection:
- Verify AC power filtering on all soldering equipment
- Test ground continuity on tool tips (should be <1Ω to earth ground)
- Use industrial-grade outlets with verified grounding
- Inspect power cables for damage
2. Assembly Process Verification:
- AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) for component polarity
- X-ray inspection for BGA/QFN alignment
- RPI (Reflow Process Inspection) for solder joint quality
- Verify silk-screen markings match component orientation
3. Temperature Monitoring:
- Attach thermocouples to representative boards during profiling
- Verify peak temperatures stay within component specifications
- Check for hot spots indicating inadequate thermal design
4. Incoming Component Inspection:
- Discharge capacitors before placement
- Verify component markings match BOM
- Inspect for physical damage or contamination
