The bq78z100 device provides a fully integrated pack-based solution with a flash programmable custom reduced instruction-set CPU (RISC), safety protection, and authentication for 1-series to 2-series cell Li-Ion and Li-Polymer battery packs.
The bq78z100 gas gauge communicates via an I2C-compatible interface or single-wire HDQ interface and combines an ultra-low-power, high-speed TI bqBMP processor, high-accuracy analog measurement capabilities, integrated flash memory, an array of peripheral and communication ports, an N-channel FET drive, and a SHA-1 Authentication transform responder into a complete, high-performance battery management solution.
The bq78z100 device provides an array of battery and system safety functions, including overcurrent in discharge, short circuit in charge, and short circuit in discharge protection for the battery, as well as FET protection for the N-channel FETs, internal AFE watchdog, and cell balancing. Through firmware, the devices can provide a larger array of features including protection against overvoltage, undervoltage, overtemperature, and more.

Battery Management Studio (bqStudio) offers a full suite of robust tools to assist with the process of evaluating, designing with, configuring, testing, or otherwise utilizing TI Battery management products. This includes features that provide full access to registers and data memory including support for real-time watching, graphing, and logging, an easy interface to send commands, direct low-level communication and I/O, as well as automated and guided support for configuration, calibration, performing a learning cycle, and generating useful files for taking the device to production.
Older products such as bq20xxx and bq30xxx are not supported in bqStudio. Download the specific evaluation software from the appropriate product page.

Description
The R1B version of BQ28Z610-DEVICE-FW is a firmware (FW) upgrade for the BQ78Z100 hardware. It is identical to BQ28Z610-R1. Programming the R1B firmware on BQ78Z100 hardware will effectively convert the BQ78Z100 to a BQ28Z610-R1(Rev. A). BQ28Z610-R1 is a highly integrated, accurate, 1-series to 2-series cell gas gauge with protection solution, providing autonomous charger control and cell balancing. This firmware is compatible with bq28z610-R1 hardware. Note: This firmware is not compatible with bq28z610 hardware.
