Design Above a Minimum Current Limit

Some applications require that current limiting cannot occur below a certain threshold. For this example, assume that 3 A must be delivered to the load so that the minimum desired current-limit threshold is 3000 mA. Use the IOS equations and Figure 9-2 to select R(ILIM).

Equation 2. GUID-A58B0C49-1FA7-4506-9FE8-1FF32C34ACD3-low.gif

Select the closest 1% resistor less than the calculated value: R(ILIM) = 36.5 kΩ. This sets the minimum current-limit threshold at 3016 A.

Equation 3. GUID-C1515126-6681-49DA-AC0C-19BF23082A50-low.gif

Use the IOS equations, Figure 9-2, and the previously calculated value for R(ILIM) to calculate the maximum resulting current-limit threshold.

Equation 4. GUID-0DA4DA19-FAE3-4364-96B1-DBD056DCB596-low.gif

The resulting maximum current-limit threshold minimum is 3016 mA and maximum is 3387 mA with a 36.5 kΩ ± 1%.
